Aloysius Devedander Ambercrombie
Technically the first character in 4th Group, Fred Mayhew's half-elf fighter/mage was played once at my 1999 summer archaeology field training. Aloysius, who failed to become an elf during the Great Changing because he was stoned at the time, resisted conscription by the spellarchers and had his house burned down. He fled a company of the archer-wizards, led by Marius Rigondolaz, to the Telore/Menellwon city of Scardan. Aloysius made a humorous attempt to purchase a war dog for nothing by offering to train it himself; the human dog merchant offered to enlist him in the anti-elven resistance movement, the Dagger and Thorn, by way of payment for the dog. Fred was theoretically supposed to meet and join 4th Group, but this never occurred, and Aloysius is presumably still wandering the wilds of Menellwon somewhere.
As an interesting post-script, Aloysius was also supposed to be part of a summer field school campaign which never came to be. Several of my fellow anthropologists created characters for it, however, including Yeager Stormbringer (a warrior who knew how to swim and use a bastard sword in three different styles, and that was about it), a gypsy ranger/psionicist, and a half-sprite bounty hunter.
Eser Brightblane
This disguised elven mage, played by Jen Klesh, met with Larina Farmer in Brevar after the Sky Turtle incident. At first Eser's objective was simply to confront Rina about the witchcraft she witnessed her using, but the two ended up on an adventure trying to retrieve an artifact from Unseelie faeries. The DM had to cut short the session on account of a Cedar Point trip the day after, so the adventure was never resolved.
Morgynn Blackblade
This elven bladesinger, created as a Fourth Group cameo for one of Prashant Tumuluri's visits to Mercyhurst, encountered the group during their visit to Bluetree. The story of Morgynn Blackblade is a simple one. He was born in the year 567 Post-Descent in the human calendar. According to the Elven calendar, it was 88th Winter, Age of the Leaf. He was born to Dai and Thera Forestwalker. Dai, his father, was an expert ranger and tracker, he was called upon to aid almost everyone, from simple guildsman to rich merchants. Morgynn, however, did not take after his father's supreme love of the forest, next to Thera of course. However, Morgynn did get his father's eye for detail, and had a great deal of curiousity. He looked into almost everything, sometimes to his regret. Morgynn's passion was the warrior's arts, mainly the Bladesong. In his village there was a Bladesinger, Colin Lightfoot, who told him of his travels and exploits, and of foreign people and lands. He also demonstrated the Bladesong to young Morgynn. Colin taught Morgynn the importance and greatness of the elven nation, and elven ways. Morgynn loved the humming music that came from the perfection of movement that was the Song of the Blade. He wished to go to new places, and meet new people. He also wished more than anything to become a Bladesinger. He wished to impart to others the greatness of Tulmish, and he wished to preserve it. So, in his childhood, he learned and dreamed, and when he was old enough, he followed his dream.
The path of the Bladesinger was not an easy one, mentally or physically. But Morgynn persevered, and came out as one of the best of his generation. But like all new do-gooders, he had not yet learned when to fight and when to let live. He did learn eventually, though he spent many agonizing days recovering from his lessons. Although Morgynn loved his heritage, more than anything, he respected the other peoples, of the lands surrounding Tulmish. He was sent out on many minor missions by the head of his village, until his latest mission took him far from his home. He had been asked to escort Nathan Crawlvine, a human mercenary in the service of the elven Sabaists, to the city of Bluetree, within Gregora. He of course, agreed, and encountered Fourth Group when their paths crossed Crawlvine's in Bluetree. Although Morgynn began opposing them, they eventually made friends, and he helped them during their time in Bluetree.
The Cursed Bugbear Weremoose Shaman with the Cursed Spelljamming Vessel From Ravenloft
This one is an idea LAZ and I have been tossing around since freshman year. We don't know what it would do or where it would fit, and neither of us have ever tried to use it in a campaign. Given its title, we're probably better off that way.
Erik Falconfriend
This (human fighter?), played by Prashant Tumuluri, met Fourth Group just outside the Banshee Wastes on their way to Devil's Eye. He was traveling in search of his brother, who had met some sort of dire fate at the hands of a fire elementalist.
Flagstone
This centaur ranger, a worshipper of Skerrit, was created by Chuck as a 2nd Group character. Flagstone was never introduced, however, due to his inability to enter New Braghney (being a faerie creature) and the desire to limit the party to a single four-legged freak following the arrival of
Rondax.
Gerald Helmsblade
LAZ sent me a short e-mail introducing this character, a non-Galon gnome who somehow ended up on Galon after the Twilight Times. The gnome was theoretically outside Silvercloud when he arrived. A second installment of the story was never sent, but it's probably just as well, because an offworld gnome appearing in Silvercloud during the times he specified would cause serious problems with existing 4th Group continuity. LAZ, if you ever want to write more about Gerald, you'll have to put him somewhere else.
Ines
This gnome, introduced by Jason to the Highmoon portion of 4th group , was a tinker gnome illusionist who was a former cook on a sailing vessel and was skilled in a martial art based on using an oar as a weapon. With so many concepts rolled into one character, she was obviously difficult to manage, and was never developed fully. She met Cordelia Terasin once in Rallathil's Glen, and Cordelia referred her to the Golden Urn for lodgings. It was decided by everyone that Al-Quaban was a superior character, and Ines was relegated to obscurity.
Jamja
This fascinating character was conceived by Paul for potential introduction to a Mercyhurst campaign or 3rd Group. Jamja was a houngan (voodoo priest) from an isolated island nation who worshipped powers of dubious morality. Jamja was loosely based on Baron Samedi, a villain from an episode of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and like him, had a snake motif. The character was created, and his sheet still resides in Paul's gaming folder, but he has never been played as a PC. Recently however, Jamja turned up in the village of Devil's Eye, where he encountered 4th Group as an NPC, with Paul's permission.
LAZ's halfling
This elderly, mean-tempered halfling locksmith, who claimed to have designed the locks of the Cave of Ferndale, met 1st Group in Dumplingshire shortly after the death of Alidin and offered to accompany them. The group did not like the old halfling, however, and left him in the lurch. LAZ never played the character again.
((Lennon "Beetle" McCarthy))
This unique character, a product of Justin's fertile imagination, has had a part in the Airship Group, the first incarnation of Florida Group, and most recently, Northgray Group.
Plop
This philosopher-warrior was a Galon orc from the tribe of Dented Skull. He was created by Steve as an adversary for 1st group or part of a theoretical all-orc campaign, but never played.
Randox
It is a little-known corner of 2nd Group history that Rondax could have been far different. When the character was originally conceived, his name was Randox, and he was a wemic witch doctor who memorized spells by flinging herbs into a fire and shouting to the tikis. The character was dropped when Chris decided he wanted to play a non-magic-user and opted for Rondax, the wemic warrior we all know and love.
Celeste Silverleaf
Celeste was a creation of Paul, intended for use as a Kaerith character. She was a female elven cleric of Syllendel Mallandiara. Unfortunately, by the time Paul got around to joining 2nd Group , we'd realized that Celeste was technically impossible on a world whose elves have no gods, clerics, or dealings with other races. She was scrapped in favor of his assassin, Sarah Ransfeur. Paul, by the way, if you ever wanted to pull Celeste out of limbo, she'd work well on Galon.
Shelly Springflower
This was the original name of an unplayed character of Steve's, a female cleric of Aeros, who eventually became 1st Group's Dianthia Cariophyla. Dianthia was actually called Shelly the first time she was played in the campaign, switching to Dianthia only near the end of her brief tenure with the party.
Tabar
Pat Becker's sole character, intended to be a member of 4th Group , was a human mage/psionicist. For reasons unknown, he was wandering toward Silvercloud, passing through the infamous Old Grey Bog on the way. Tabar's sole accomplishment in the campaign, for which he earned 1 XP, was casting detect magic on a suspicious-looking raven (which proved nonmagical). He theoretically arrived at the Dusty Road Inn, where we left him talking to Samson. However, Pat was unable to participate in the campaign further due to lack of time, and presumably Tabar has moved on.
