This story is the first fiction by LAZ concerning his soloist character Gimble , a bugbear sage specialized in exotic weaponry, and his companion, a talking rat named Rat. This is the first tale in the open-ended chronicle of Steve's infamous invoker, Tyconderoga Sampsonite, before his adventures with 2nd Group, and fleshes out his early history and the village of Ipmore.

This tale, set before the beginning of 2nd Group, is really the first piece of 2nd group fiction. It concerns Justin's infamous rogue, Bono Fosbury, and details a pivotal event early in his adventuring career. The story also pays homage to the long-forgotten Lunch Group campaign, revisting a character Justin played long ago and revealing where he went after that short-lived party disbanded.
