Franaxan Prison Break


With two days off, the group came prepared with a couple of ideas to resolve the current problems


The group decides to break out the Franaxan priests to bolster the numbers available to stop the shipment. They learn the prisoners are guarded by the regular courthouse guards, number two dozen, plus the dungeon guards, includes a warpriest and eight guards. There are two entrances to the dungeon.The primary is from the main court room while the second is outside the Hall of Justice, but no one knows where it is located.

Prentice, Sol, Rondax, JL and a Franaxan will enter the dungeon using Windwalk. Tyke will fly with invisibility.

Tyke

Tyke visits Felipe Redthorne again for possibilities to make a large amount of fog in case we are unable to free the Franaxans. Redthorne has two items of interest. The first is a Tempest in a Teapot (looks like a mop bucket). The second is a black ebony scroll of Death Fog. Tyke makes a trade for the Tempest which has the following abilities:
  • Pea Soup - Fog
  • Rain Water - Water
  • Incense - Wind
  • Holly Berries - Snow
  • Quartz Crystals - Hail
  • ??? - Dust Storms
  • ??? - Increase Temp
  • ??? - Decrease Temp

Bono

Bono runs off the to the Hall of Justice to prepare for the group's entry. He contacts the Steward and is given access to the Courts and Alchemist's Lab from outside. Once inside the Alchemist's Lab, Bono attempts a few alchemical formulas by the book. Successfully makes a few formulas work, but sets off a minor explosion on his fourth attempt. This leads to a fire which causes Bono to leave the lab. Once into the hallway, he's stopped and arrested by an orc guard who heard the explosions. The guard drags Bono to the dungeon.

Once they pass through the first door to the dungeon, Bono kills the orc. Two more guards from the bottom of the stairs start making their way up the steps before Bono blinds one with his Jewel of Light. The orc with sight charges Bono with a longsword. Bono kills both orcs using a combination of magic and his dagger.

Two More guards appear at the bottom of the steps. They charge up the stairs and corner Bono at the door. Bono takes a potion of sleep-breathing and is able to knock one of the orcs out. The second orc attacks. Bono attempts to push the orc but fails. The orc swings and misses. Bono casts true strike and hits with the longsword. The orc swings and misses. Bono is able to counter by pushing him down the steps. Bono follows up with a charge but misses. The orc attemps to trip Bono, before the orc is able to complete the move, he's dead by Bono's attack of oppertunity. Bono finishes off the sleeping guard and grabs the keys before being challenged from beyond the bottom door. The orc behind the door wants the intruder brought down, when Bono, acting as one of the guards, insists they need additional support, a stinking cloud begins wafting up the steps. Bono escapes back into the court room before contacting Tyke.

The Entry

Tyke teleports the group to the Red Clay Roof Inn, and they approach the Halls of Justice, appoximately 10 minutes after Bono's message. The left side of the building is on fire. Bono throws a burning table leg out of a window, providing the group a means to enter. The group enters the building and heads towards the central chamber, Prentice leaving Fire Berries at key locations. During this time Bono is suffering from smoke inhalation. They head down the steps and Bono opens the second door, setting off an Explosive Runes spell. Most of the damage is healed by JL.

Once in the entry way, the group finds two doors and a portcullis. The right hand door leads into the dungeon itself. The second door leads to an armory with a trapped trunk. The trap caused blindness which Bono healed with the current spell from the Infinite Spellbook. Bono opens the trunk and finds the following:
  • 3 Flasks
  • Short sword in jewelled scabbard (Singing sword, Bono)
  • Battle Axe
  • Man & Serpant
  • Kukri
  • 4 Daggers
  • Morningstar
  • Hand-crossbow (Bono or Franaxan)
  • Four Blackjacks
  • Darts fitted with cork
  • Hammer type weapon

Everything not taken by an individual as well as everything in the armory was dropped into the Portable hole.

Rondax and Sol went to the far side of Portcullis and searched the area. When attempting to open the portcullis a trap destroys the winch system forcing the group to open the portcullis manually then keeping it open with a set of shelves.

The group heads through the door across the room from the portcullis and find a hallway. The hallway contains 6 cells, empty except for the last one which holds a zombie. At the end of the hallway is another leading into a larger room that appears to be a pantry. Both doors are opened by the keys Bono took earlier. Tyke steals the 50lb sacks of flour and corn in the pantry. Prentice destroys the zombie and they search the room finding a hidden panel that leads to a spiral staircase. This staircase comes up outside the Halls of Justice underneath a fireplace.

The group backtracks towards the portcullis and head down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs they find a heavy door. Bono searches the door for traps and then unlocks it, setting off the Poison trap he missed. Prentice cures the poison before Rondax heads down the narrow hallway containing 11 cells and then down the off-shoot with four more cells while still in wind walk form. Some of the prisoners are clearly Franaxan priests. Apparently Father Lowry was taken away.

That was all the group was able to determine before they were attacked by the war priest.

Bono and Prentice work on freeing the prisoners while the rest of the group explore the hallways. The room behind the orc contains a crematorium, Sol drops the orc into the crematorium(1). At the end of the short hallway they find a torture chamber which Rondax ransacks for some of the tools that could double as skinning utensils.

While the group searches the lower level, Tyke heads back upstairs primarily to search for Father Lowry. Instead Tyke finds a Bernish Scrying room with runes on the walls and a bronze bowl on a pedestal. Tyke then enters a T with five doors at the top. The first room was empty, the second contained a table and bench, the third was room designed to make prisoners very uncomfortable (unable to sit/stand/lay down), the fourth is unrecorded, the fifth had cabinets lining the walls with records of the prisoners. Tyke emptied the drawers onto the floor and searched for magic, finding a Bracelet and a talking Wizard hat both from Cell 23.

By the this time, the group has come up from the lower level. Tyke informs them of the scrying room. A Franaxan cleric steps forward with the information he is capable of scrying at will. The group asks him to scry on Father Lowry. The priest says he saw Father Lowry speaking with an orc in a well lit room. The conversation concerns church secrets. The orc was in military dress but not armor. The orc was also concerned about weather conditions.

The wizard owning the bracelet and hat is Tom Garret, a Tedroxian who does not radiate evil. Bono releases him. Then Bono, Rondax and Prentice work on releasing the other prisoners from the upper level. The group ends with 23 prisoners in all. The only problem occurs when a deranged prisoner attacks Prentice. Prentice counters with Burning Hands, killing the prisoner.

While the group is freeing prisoners on the upper level, Sol checks out the hidden stair case and the trap door. The stair case is not under the Hall of Justice. The room outside the fireplace is completely dark. Sol discovers the fireplace is in a house across the street from the Hall of Justice.

The Escape

The entire group makes its way out the trap door with the prisoners. As the group prepares to leave, an orc guard notices. He approaches and talks with Bono, his suspicion noticeable. Bono decides he can't take the chance and surprises the orc with an attack, killing him. A second guard approaches. Not wanting any more trouble, JL and Tyke dimension door the Franaxan priest out of the house while the remainder of the group wind walks.

The dimension door puts everyone in a shed, an extremely tight fit for approximately 15 people. JL makes the mistake of summoning Winston who appears in the shed as well. Tyke casts knock and everyone spills out. The owner of the shed, a farmer, smacks Tyke with a shovel but lets everyone go after Tyke buys every piece of clothing the farmer owns.

JL, Tyke, and one Franaxan priest, who is a member of the resistance, break the remaining released prisoners into three groups with plans to meet back at the glen.

As the wind walkers leave, they realize that 2/3's of the Hall of Justice has been destroyed. Prentice finishes the job by setting off the Fire Berries.

With the entire group back at the glen, they discuss the possibility of scries.

The Church of Franaxa recognizes the debt of gratitude they owe the group. Let the group know they can contact Balder, Sir Tolof's Daughter, or Boron Marshmender for aid. Garrett would like to help the group, he's has experiencing with Fireworks and was working on a water breathing charm.

Unfortunately, Ingrid is not happy with outcome.

Orcs really do appear to want to hire the group.

Resistance moved to secondary meeting place that Father Lowry does not know about.
