The Blackstar Clan

The Blackstar clan has had a long and troublesome history. During the lifetime of Taklinn Blackstar, it was decided that the clan would re-claim the land famous for red iron ore. That land soon became known as Dol Geldar. Taklinn headed out from Copperwell with a band of 2000 dwarves, the founding fathers or Dol Geldar. Their clan had once lived where Dol Geldar now stands, but times long past had been trying on the dwarven peoples and Taklinn's forefathers had joined the Steelbiter clan at Copperwell for the safety and strength in numbers.

Since that time, both clans had grown in numbers and strength and a strong alliance had been forged. When the Blackstar clan returned to Dol Geldar the parting was one of both grief and hope. Both clans had grown close to each other, yet it was a time of celebration, the Dwarven confederate was once again expanding. Everyone prayed for Clan Blackstar's prosperity in Dol Geldar, and those prayers did not go unanswered, at least for a time. For 3 generations Clan Blackstar prospered at Dol Geldar, until Lorgun and the Gagnerian orcs came through and all but killed the Clan. The only remaining name sake of Clan Blackstar is Sol, now prince of Dol Geldar and lone survivor of clan Blackstar.

Sol Blackstar - The Dwarf

Sol Blackstar was raised unlike other dwarven nobility. His father, Tycus Blackstar, and his mother, Torga of the Steelbiter clan, insured that Sol would be well prepared for leadership without the pressure of the throne weighing him down in his early years. They gave Sol a chance at the life of a normal dwarven youth. There were, of course, the additional classes in etiquette and leadership and training in the fields needed to rule. Sol took these classes and the extra training in stride and with an ease that shocked many that surrounded him. Early in his life he realized that one day he would rule Dol Geldar, but no one realized how soon that day would come.

At an early age he showed a great interest in reading and writing. The reading he accomplished very well, but the writing became a secret love that showed little, if any promise. He did excel at those things that all dwarves are good at; metal working, mining, and stone crafts. Metal working and mining were his specialties though. What else would you expect from one of Clan Blackstar, now infamous for its red ore.

Sol pushed himself harder than anyone else in his life. He displayed a maturity well beyond his years. His stubborn side came out early and proved to be more intense than most dwarves. Sol, like the rest of his family, is extremely proud of his history and wears his family crest with honor.

At the time of Lorgun's attack, Sol was away from Dol Geldar mapping a newly discovered mine with five other dwarves. They heard the battle the screams of the dying shortly after the attack started. Sol and his fellow dwarves ran back to Dol Geldar, to find they city almost completely destroyed. There were dead bodies everywhere, both dwarven and orcish. As they came to the city, they started killing orcs, taking them by complete surprise.

When the last of the orcs had been slain or chased off, Sol was summoned to his father's house by the high cleric of Deepflame, Veit Anvilhead. Tycus had recieved a mortal wound during the battle. Veit had already done everything he could for Tycus but there was no hope for his survival. Sol knelt beside his father's bed. Tycus grabbed Sol's and with his last breath urged the young prince to lead his people wisely.

Watching his father die, Sol hardly heard his father's words. So filled with gried was Sol, that he vowed to avenge his father's death. Sol helped bury his father and the others in Dol Geldar killed during Lorgun's attack. He helped clean up Dol Geldar as best he and the other survivors could. A week after his father's funeral, Sol called together his father's surviving advisors, his cousin Belack, and his best friend Granite.

He stood before everyone, "I have a few announcements to make. First off, I would like to thank everyone for their support in these trying times. Unfortunately I can not follow the advise you have all given me, I can not stay here with my father's death, the death of our people on my conscience. I vowed at my father's side to avenge his death." Continuing, "Granite, we have vowed to stand together throughout anything, will you join me on my quest and aid me in avenging my father's death and the death of our people? Belack, we have been brought up together, will you lead our great city in my absence and start rebuilding it to its former glory? Veit, you have spent your life in service to both Deepflame and our kingdom, will you continue your service by guiding my cousin through these difficult times?"
After all three had ansered, a troubled look coming over the face of Veit. Sol continued a sorrow touching his voice, "I realize that none of you wish me to go, but I pray that you understand that I must go. If I do not go and hunt down the beast that killed my father and destroyed our kingdom, my family's honor will always be tarnished and our kingdom will never be safe. I shall be leaving on the morrow."

The next morning, Sol left Dol Geldar with Granite at his side. He left with his only suit of studded leather armor, his crossbow, warhammer and a dagger. The bastard sword his father had given him the year before had snapped in the battle against the orcs. That was the last anyone in Dol Geldar heard of Sol Blackstar for some time.

A Word from Sol Blackstar

My name is Sol Blackstar. I am Prince of Dol Geldar. As with any other dwarf, I can track my lineage back more centuries than humans can comprehend. At first my life was simple and peaceful, at least it appeard that way.

The Blackstar Family, my family, has always honored our Father An. We, the dwarven people, disgraced An when we allowed his home, our birthplace, to be taken. We have been punished, a plague has befallen our people, We have lost three of our cities, two more are about to fall. We must heed An's warning and return what is his to our protection.

I have prayed to our Lord Shatterstriker for aid in our quest to return An's home to our protection. I pray to him daily for guidance and strength. If I can not help my fellow dwarves and return our birthplace to An's protection, than I shall die trying.
